The Village Head of Ikot Inyang,
Afaha Obong in Abak local government area, Obong Akpan Patrick Essien has
described the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio as the best material to
represent the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in the Upper Chambers
of the National Assembly.
Obong Akpan Essien who spoke with
our reporter in his palace recently, explained that if given the opportunity,
Chief Godswill Akpabio’s sojourn in the Upper Chambers of the National Assembly
would be of immense benefit to the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in
particular and the State in general having performed marvelously well as the
Governor of the state.
“We are appreciative of what His Excellency, Chief (Dr)
Godswill Akapbio is doing in the State. Having made us proud through the
numerous achievements that he has recorded in the State, I don’t want him to
stop here. I want him to move higher to the National level which he has started
by becoming the Pioneer Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum in Nigeria. So, I
see Chief Godswill Akpabio as the best material to represent the good people of
Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in the National Assembly”, the Village Head
stated.
The Royal Father listed some of
the achievements of the State Governor to include, the massive construction of
roads across the state, the improved welfare of traditional rulers, the free
and compulsory education, pointing out that in the nearest future, Akwa Ibom
would compete favourably with their western counterpart because of the policy.
He solicited for continuous
support and prayers from the people of the state to the Governor to enable him
remain focus and concentrate on the task of building a better Akwa Ibom.
Obong Akpan Essien popularly
called “Ubom Enang” however appealed to the State Governor to come to their aid
by providing the people of this Village with amenities that would make them to
live comfortably and also enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The Royal Father lamented lack of
school in his community which according to him, would have afforded the people
of his community the opportunity to also enjoy the free and compulsory
education policy of government and appealed to the state government to establish
Primary School in his village.
He made a case for the
establishment of health centre to enable the people of his village have access
to medical attention as they have to pass through seven villages before getting
to health centre. The Village Head also called for the provision of portable
water as the only source of drinking water in the area is the pond which
according to him is seasonal.
Ubom Enang also regretted that the
popular Ibaya Market which he noted supposed to be a tourist site remains a
shadow of itself as the market which annually hosts people from all works of
life, cannot boast of a single structure and called on government both at local
and state level to assist in this regard.
