Environmental Health Professionals in the State under the auspices of Environmental Health Club of Nigeria has been lauded for sensitizing the public on environmental protection and cleanliness.

The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah who made the commendation in his office, during a courtesy visit by the group, described the initiative as laudable and timely, given the quality of infrastructure provided by the State government.
He said that Governor Akpabio-led administration has invested substantially in the environmental development of the State to ensure the cleanliness of our environment and the wellbeing of the citizenry.


Umanah acknowledged the pivotal role of the Ministry of Environment and its agencies especially the Green Brigade, which is an initiative of the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, for working assiduously to ensure the cleanliness of the Capital City.

He urged members of the Environmental Health Club of Nigeria to key into the environmental transformation programme of the State Government and assured that their request will be forwarded to the appropriate Ministry and Agencies for necessary action.

Earlier, the President of the Environmental Health Club, Comrade Idongesit Essien said as a professional group, they were obliged to educate and enlighten the public on Environmental Health related issues.

He called on the State government to re-position Environmental Health Services in the State, Local Governments and Government Agencies/ Parastatals, by employing qualified Environmental Health Officers, who he described as true sanitarians that have undergone training in specialized institutions such as the Akwa Ibom State School of Health Technology, Etinan.
 While appreciating the pragmatic effort of the Information Commissioner in promoting and projecting the image of the State, thereby changing the status of Akwa Ibom State in the comity of States in the Country, Comrade

Essien urged the State Government to re-introduce the monthly environmental sanitation in order to make Akwa Ibom State cleaner, healthier and safer for inhabitants and investors.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications, Mr. Emman Asanga congratulated the club for undertaking Environmental Health Education for the public as a vocation and applauded their interest in the general hygiene of the State.
Present during the visit were Directors and Head of Departments in the Ministry.
