Boys International Unity tournament which will kick start on 14th -22nd September, 2013
Speaking
with our sports Editor, last week the tournament director, Hon John Ekpenyong
said the football competition is an annual event organized by the south –south
zone of the grassroots sports federation of Nigeria to celebrate the wave of
development that has been sweeping across the state.
Ekpenyong
said the football tournament is tagged “uncommon transformation edition” and
will also coincide with the state anniversary celebration and is supported by
the state government. He further noted that the football competition enters its
7th edition of talents discovery and unity promotion this year and that over
the last six years the competition have discovered and sent overseas no fewer
than twenty (20) highly talented footballers of the State origin who today ply
their trades as foreign based.
He
disclosed that over 60 football teams drawn across the federation are expected
to participate in the competition, adding that 4 foreign countries have
confirmed their participations which include: Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo and
Cameroon as well as International football Agents and scouts will also be part
of the event to select some football talented players.
In
his words “we have finalized deal with the penalty kit company to supply all
the kits that would be used throughout the competition”
Hon. Ekpenyong assured
all the participating teams of N50, 000 consolidation price and customized set
of jersey to be given to the football team, while 1 million, N750,000 and
N550,000 price tag will be given to the winners at the competition even as he
disclosed the playing centres of the competition which are the Uyo township
stadium and Ukana Independent High School.
