USI Akpakip Oro exco inaugurated …..insists on 2015 Governorship BY EMMANUEL AKPAN

Ahead of the 2015 general elections in Akwa Ibom State, a pan Oro Socio-Political Organisation, Usi Akpakip Oro executive has been inaugurated with the aim to represent Oro Nation in negotiations with other ethnic nationalities for the governorship position to be given to Oro Nation.

The inauguration took place at Oron civic Centre, Oron Local Government, last weekend.

Inaugurating the organization, the chairman on the occasion, Chief E.E.Eneyo said the primary responsibility of the organization was for them to negotiate political powers especially the position of the governorship to be given to Oro Nation come 2015,adding that Oro Nation has so many qualified persons who will contest and win the race as well as make life more meaningful to all Akwa Ibomites.

Chief Eneyo stressed the need for all Akwa Ibom people to support the Oro cause by voting for an Oro man to win the governorship seat in other for peace and unity to continue to reign in the state. According to Chief Eneyo ‘the time has come for Oro Nation to produce the next governor and must rise up to the challenges and struggles for the governorship as well as take over the hilltop mansion come 2015’.

In his keynote address, Mr.Patrick Nkereuwem charged the organization to always engage in projects that will promote the socio-political and overall interest of Oro people,while urging them to become a very strong voice for Oro Nation by speaking for them in all matters that will be based on consensus and properly articulated will of the majority of Oro people.

Mr.Nkereuwem thanked all stakeholders from the five Local Government Areas that comprises Oro Nation for agreeing unanimously that a socio-political umbrella organisation be established for the ethnic nationality.He maintained that the mandate of Usi Akpakip Oro is to speak on behalf of the three institutions of Oron Union, Okobo Union and the council of Oron Traditional Rulers as a body and also capable at all times and after due consultations with them and other stakeholders of making public pronouncements and position statementson issues of interest to Oro Nation.

According to Patrick “the essence of this organization is to foster unity of purpose and commanding respect legitimately and political clout for Oro Nation,the time has come for Oro Nation to move beyond viewing political dividend solely in terms of rations”.

Responding on behalf of the members,the leader of Usi Akpakip Oro,Professor O.O.Bassey thanked the oro stakeholders for giving him the opportunity to lead them which has over 55 members with 11 drawn from each of the 5 L.G.As that makes up the nation,in addition to elected officials, presidents and secretaries of recognized socio-cultural bodies and political appointees.

He noted that the organization will urgently focus on resolution of all on-going conflicts between some individuals and groups in the nation and mobilizing for the nation come 2015 governorship election as well as any other topical issue at state or national level of significance to Oro people. Amongst other members of the organization were: Hon. Peter Linus as deputy leader, Ambassador Etim Okpoyo,Deputy Leader, Chief E.E.Eneyo,Deputy, Secretary,Andy Andem,Treasurer,Prof.Eka Uwe,Assistant secretary, Elder Essang Nseabasi.
