AKIPA moves to set agenda for good governance BY JOSEPH OKON

A socio political group in the State, Akwa Ibom Progressive Advocate (AKIPA) has said that it is ready to set an agenda to encourage sustainable good governance as championed by the state governor Chief Godswill Akpabio in the state and President Goodluck Jonathan at the Federal level, and has called on the President to step forward and contest the forth coming 2015 Presidential election in the country.  

The national coordinator of the group  Hon Emmanuel Bassey who is a native of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State popularly known as Attah’s ambassador stated this recently in Uyo the state capital while speaking with journalists on the objectives of the group and what AKIPA stands to offer as the 2015 general election draws near in the state and country at large. 

Hon Bassey maintained that President Jonathan within few years has demonstrate great commitment and passion to move Nigeria to the next level through his peoples oriented programmes aim at the betterment of the masses and not for the few individuals, likewise governor Godswill Akpabio who has in uncommon way transformed Akwa Ibom State into a destination of choice in nigeria. 


He further said that he and other founding members were at the fore front of G31, and youth caucus, adding that AKIPA is out to promot good governance, encourage love, peace, unity, togetherness not only in Akwa Ibom State but in nigeria at large, adding that nothing better can be achieved in the atmospher of war, that is while every right thinking persons in this country must go all out for peace because peace drives development.

 According to him, “that is why we came together as reasonable young men and women to support and encourage what is good, not only in Akwa Ibom State but in Nigeria. AKIPA as a socio political group is founded on the tenet of good conscience, sound moral enduring democratic principles with the mandate to defend the rule of law, promote good governance and encourage pragmatic initiatives that enhance socio political and economic development as well as support real commitment to equity, justice, fairness and democratic growth. 

About three weeks ago in our enlarge meeting we came out with a resolution mandating Mr President to urgently declare for a second term, we have our reasons for doing that, if you look at our country and compare past leaders, each of them as they come have one or two things to present, but you can bear with me that Goodluck Jonathan is better base on so many things he has been able to put on ground like the railway system which was grounded for many years back”. 

The national president also said that the group has not yet adopted it candidate for the 2015 governorship of the state but is still monitoring aspirants who have indicate interest and those that are yet to indicate interest before taking a position, adding that the group AKIPA will soon be inaugurated in Uyo the state capital which he said will be attended by the who is who in the political circle of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria, but however added that membership of the group is strictly for members of PDP.
