BY RAPHAEL UDO

The people of Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency under the banner of Ibom Consolidated Assembly (ICA) on Monday at Ikot Ekpene Embraced and adopted Senator Helen Esuene as Governor of Akwa Ibom State come 2015.

The Occasion was the inauguration of Chapter executives of the organization from Essien Udom, Obot Akara and Ikot Ekpene Local Government Areas which make the Federal Constituency.

Remarking, Chairman of the occasion, Hon Patrick Emmanson Udo, a renowned politician from the Area said that Akwa Ibom State will soon have the first elected woman Governor in the person of Senator Helen Esuene because she is the people’s Choice

He said further that “the myopic view of some people who claim that a woman cannot govern the State is very unfortunate in this age of modernity where women occupy prominent position as president of Great Nations’’

“Governance, administration, knowledge, wisdom and the capabilities to deliver is not a gender issue, so it is the highest display of ignorance for one to say that a woman cannot be Governor of Akwa Ibom State’’, he said.

“Senator Helen Esuene is not an Ordinary woman; she has been a First Lady, a secretary of Eket Local Government, a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a member of ECOWAS parliament, Chairman of various Boards and currently a distinguished Senator of the Federation who heads the Senate committee on Women Affairs and Youths Matters’’ Hon Udo said, adding that she is the most qualified of the those angling to be governor of the State.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator Of Ibom Consolidated Assembly, Hon Utip Etiebet called on the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district to support the aspiration of Senator Esuene because she will consolidate on the achievement of Governor Godswill Akpabio, describing her as a rare woman of integrity, patriotism and outstanding pedigree.

Hon. Sunday Sunday Ekanem was Sworn-in as Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area Coordinator while Elder Iberedem Asaneyene was sworn-in as Obot Akara Cordinator and Mr. Emmanuel Inyang coordinates Essien Udim.

In his remark, a former member of defunct Cross River State House of Assembly, before the creation of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Felix Ekpo said the mission of I.C.A has been made easier by the appointment of Lady Valarie Ebe as deputy Governor of the State.

“Lady Valarie Ebe as deputy Governor of the State is to show that a woman can govern the State. She is preparing the grounds for Senator Helen Esuene and the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district are solidly behind the distinguished Senator as governor come 2015, Hon Ekpo said.
