Uniuyo to host their Olympic games BY NSISONG AFANGIDEH


The University of Uyo Students Union Government (SUG) director of sport: comrade Ubokobong Obot in collaboration with the school management is organizing what they call; “University of Uyo Olympic”. The games will commence on Tuesday 1st of July to Saturday 5th of July 2014.
The event will be declared open by the vice-chancellor of the university: Prof. Comfort Ekpo at the school mini-stadium town campus by 10AM. 

The “Uniuyo Olympics” will see all the faculty of the school and those in diploma and continuing education programme compete in several sports. The sports which they will compete are; football, swimming, volleyball, basketball, tennis, track and field events, scrabble and draft.

The tournament will kick up on Tuesday 1st July and run through Saturday 5th July 2014. The football matches will be played in two venues; Mini-stadium and Uniuyo annexe field while other games will be played in the town campus.

All the participating faculties will be involved in a match-pass with the branded polo.
The last time the inter-faculty games were played was in the 2011-2012 session during the regime of Idoreyin Etefia.

                The tournament was not played during the 2012-2013 session due to the June 12 crisis and the six month old ASUU strike. The modality of the games was made before the incident intercepted.
However, the SUG director of sport; Ubokobong Obot said “it is necessary for the games to be played now because student have so much miss the biggest sporting fiesta on campus”.

He also pleads with the players of different faculties to abide by the set out rules so that the tournament will be of great success. He also pleaded with student to come to come out and relaxes their mind and get relieve of the stringent of academic stress within the five days of the tournament.

The games will be open with the opening ceremony to be led by the vice chancellor thereafter the faculty of Agric will face Pharmacy at the school mini stadium by 12pm.

There will also be a female novelty match by 2pm on Saturday 5/7/2014 before the final is being played.
