Joshua Okpo bags best performing rector award

Many eras of human civilization are often marked by the achievements of great men who changed history by their deeds. Leaders and administrators exist including people like Mr. Ghadafi, Gen. Sani Abacha and Hitler who are remembered for their infancy, seeds of discord and poor administration. It is also not uncommon to have leaders who build their wealth and glory on the suffering of the masses and mortgage the future of the governed on the altar of self-aggrandizement.

There were leaders like Martin Luther, Isaac -Newton, Thomas Edison who positioned themselves in fame as a result to their human-disposition and positive actions for the benefit of humanity.

Centuries ago, these men consistently served their generation as promising beacons of hope and life to the hopeless and down trodden. They gave a message that mankind is redeemable despite their level of poverty and perils of thorny existence.

It therefore means that there are and will always be men of proven integrity and goodwill whose path is that of leaving the society better than they met it.

Joshua Okpo, Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria is a very good example of these men of goodwill and this is why his giant strides in the Academy are winning more friends than foes as laurels and awards stream to his office every month, if not week.

The latest Best performing Rector Award Mr. Joshua Okpo by The National Association of South South students, was a mark of appreciation of the Rector’s outstanding leadership qualities, and his patriotic commitment towards making  the Premier Maritime Academy of Nigeria, a world-class Maritime University.

Presenting the award to the rector in his office recently, the National President of the Association, Comrade Martins Abebe explained that the honour on the rector was in recognition of his inspiring leadership and administrative prowess in repositioning Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, in line with President Jonathan’s transformation agenda.

Abebe expressed satisfaction over the State of infrastructural development  in the academy; courtesy of an administrator in action, and saluted Joshua Okpo’s courage, integrity, unrivalled dynamism and fertile sense of administration, as evident in the holistic transformation of the Academy.

Abebe further noted that the South South best performing Rector Award is given to those entrusted with the responsibility to manage institutions creditably and appropriately. He described the Rector as one who has distinguished himself from the class of administrators in the Africa sub-region.

He however passed a vote of confidence on the Rector and his Management team.
Responding, the Rector, Mr. Joshua Okpo thanked the South South Students delegates for acknowledging his contributions to the development of the Maritime Education in Nigeria and promised to remain resolute in transforming the institution in line with global best standards.
