2015 Ikot Abasi State Const.: Hope rises for Kufre Ufot
Supporters of the most popular and number one aspirant for the Ikot Abasi State Constituency Seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly come 2015, Elder (Surv.) Kufre Ufot, JP, and the entire people of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area was on Sunday, 14 September, 2014 filled with hope for victory as the former PDP Chapter Chairman in Easter Obolo, Hon. Solomon Harry announced that the entire people of Ikot Abasi State Constituency has rejected the 2015 Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly seat.

Solomon Harry made this known when Elder Kufre Ufot and his mammoth supporters stormed Ediduo village, his home town, to consult his kinsmen on his intent to run for the state constituency race in the forthcoming 2015 general election.

The for PDP Chairman who said he was speaking on his personal capacity disclosed that the decision to shun the 2015 Ikot Abasi State Constituency seat by Eastern Obolo was a unanimous decision made by the entire people of the Area.
According to him, the decision was because Eastern Obolo which is a component Local Government Area in the Ikot Abasi State Constituency has occupied the seat for three consecutive terms and are therefore eyeing a bigger office in order to the Ikot Abasi Local Government counterpart to take their turn so that they can continue to live in peace and harmony with each other.

Harry maintained that it was not clear that anybody is aspiring for the State House of Assembly from Eastern Obolo, a development he said is an advantage for the people of Edemeya Clan to produce their son, Elder Kufre Ufot as the next House of Assembly member representing Ikot Abasi State Constituency. He also expressed delight for the good records made by Elder Kufre Ufot for himself which he said is the reason he is enjoying massive support from his people and therefore urged him to remain focused and go about his normal consultation believing solely in God.

Others who also spoke at the even eulogized Elder Kufre Ufot on his philanthropic and human capital development for the people of Ikot Abasi and therefore urged him to continue the good works when he assume office as the member representing Ikot Abasi State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly come 2015, even as they assured him their unalloyed support and prayers.

The event had in attendant who is who in Ikot Abasi Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, numerous supporters from Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, members of Edemeya Clan Council and religious leaders from the area. Others were women organizations, students groups as well as political groups including Divine Eye for Total Liberation, Peacemakers youth group, National Association of Edemeya Students, Friends of Ambassador Kufre Ufot in Nigeria among others.

In a goodwill message presented by Divine Eye for Total Liberation and jointly signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Nseneeno John Essiet and the Secretary, Comrade Okon Sunday Effiong, the group declared their total support for Elder Kufre Ufot and also promised to embark on door-to-door campaign for the United Nation’s Ambassador of Peace.

The message which was also made available to Community Pulse Newspaper reads in part: “We are here to support your aspiration for the Ikot Abasi State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly come 2015. It is scriptural that whatever we are doing, God’s eye is watching us and we have total believe that you are that eye through which God is watching over us to give us our heart desire. Having aligned with your vision to liberate us from our suffering of years-to-years, as a group, we promise to embark on a mass mobilization across Ikot Abasi and Easter Obolo Local Government Areas to ensure that your victory at the State Constituency race is assured’’.

Highpoint of the event was Prayer for the aspirant and wife by the Chairman of Edemeya Clan Council, presentation of gift and good will messages from groups and individual.

It could be recalled that the incumbent Chapter Chairman of Eastern Obolo, Hon. Sampson Unyeawaji has recently debunked media report that Easter Obolo has endorsed an aspirant for the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. He was quoted as saying “talking about zoning, if you are to go by the statistics, Ikot Abasi State Constituency is made up of two Local Government Areas; Hon. Uyio Udosen from Ikot Abasi first represented the constituency in 1999 followed by Sir Adasi Obolom from Eastern Obolo. Dr. Charles Mbong also from Eastern Obolo took over and later handed over to the present member, Abu Aduyok, who is also from Eastern Obolo. Therefore, from this statistics if we are to do justice, equity and fairness, which zone should produce the next house member to represent the constituency in 2015? Is it Ikot Abasi which has only occupied the seat once or Eastern Obolo that have occupied it thrice? Or should there be a fourth term?”
