That endorsement of Hon. Samuel Effanga by Uruan, Ibesikpo people BY EMMANUEL AKPAN
Few months from now, the people of Uyo Federal Constituency will decide who will represent them at the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja.

Consultations have been on for the past few weeks in preparation for the D-day especially, now that the ruling party, People Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed a date for the party primaries which will take place soon.

One of the aspirants vying to represent the people of Uyo Federal Constituency is the former Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Samuel Effanga.
To those who may not know him too well, Hon. Samuel hails from Afaha Offot, Ward 6 in Uyo Local Government Area.


The seat Hon. Effanga is vying for is rotational amongst the four Local Government Areas making up Uyo Federal Constituency, namely: Uyo, Uruan, Nsit Atai and Ibesikpo Local Government Areas. It is the turn of Uyo to produce the next member in the National Assembly in line with the power-sharing formula. The people of Uyo in their wisdom have seen the quality of the kind of representative they desire in Hon. Samuel Effanga, hence they believe he can do the job.

Hon. Effanga is a man of vision, wisdom and above all, he is very creative in his thinking for his people. His ambition to the National Assembly is targeted at driving the economy of Uyo Federal Constituency and possibly improving the living standard of the people as well as making his constituents to feel the impact of governance effectively.

Three weeks ago when Hon. Effanga officially consulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uruan chapter, the consultation drew stakeholders and party faithfuls across the area. It had one of the heaviest crowds in the history of Uruan at the chapter chairman’s residence, Ifiayong Usuk.
Hon. Effanga, while addressing the party members said he has already mapped out programs that will be beneficial to his constituents and that he is going to the National Assembly with a different approach of representation that will bring sustainable development to the constituency.

The former commissioner maintained that he has already planned sustainable empowerment programs for the people of Uyo Federal Constituency and that he will start by his first month in office, adding that he is going to the National Assembly totally for service.

He noted that ahead of the party primaries coming up in few weeks, it was necessary for him to consult stakeholders and most importantly, the chapter and ward officers of the party as well as plead for their support.

The aspirant who promised to make the people of Uruan proud, said he will sponsor people-oriented bills. According to him, “I’m not seeking the people’s mandate to enrich myself or my family because by the grace of God, we are all comfortable”.

Earlier, the Director General of Hon. Samuel Effanga’s campaign team, Hon. (Dr.) Emayak Ukpong presented him to Uruan PDP and stressed the need for their support even as he call on them to rally round him (Effanga) for his ambition to come to a reality come 2015.

The DG who is a former National Assembly member, said Hon. Effanga will never disappoint Uruan people in terms of representation, adding that life-touching projects will be sited in Uruan and most especially, empowerment programs for the youths.

Chief Michael Attah Ibanga, a member of the campaign team of Hon. Effanga urged the people of Uruan to support Hon. Effanga for him to emerge the next House of Representatives member even as he described him as an accessible personality who will also listen to his constituents.

Responding on behalf of the party, the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Atakpo assured Samuel Effanga and his campaign team that the party will give the aspirant a level playing ground as well as all the aspirants. The party chieftain advised Hon. Effanga to go back and consult other local government areas making up the federal constituency to ensure victory come 2015. Hon. Robetta Nyong, a former Council Chairman of Uruan also spoke in support of Hon. Effanga and wished him well and victorious in the 2015 election.
Hon. Samuel Effanga also took his consultation team to Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area last week Monday, where he was warmly received by stakeholders, Chapter and Ward executive members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as his supporters at the Chapter Chairman’s compound. The Ibesikpo people were all happy to see the like of Hon. Effanga aspiring to represent them at the National Assembly.

Speaking, Hon. Effanga who is the leading aspirant said he was in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA for a formal consultation and to inform the people of his ambition. He described the area as the girdle of political development in Akwa Ibom State and noted that with his exposure to governance; he will never disappoint them and the Uyo Federal Constituency in general, noting that his administration will have the greatest impact on the people.

In his words “my philosophy is different, I’m ready to chip-in my own as I have always done to ensure my people are happy. I want to change people’s perception of politics as a money-making venture. Politics should be seen as one of the ways to serve the people and not the other way round as it has been the case. It is not about what you want to get, but what you have to offer”.
He further added that he will try his best to serve the people while pleading with the party to support his ambition.

His campaign Director General while presenting him to Ibesikpo people as well as the PDP family, said Effanga has the qualities to present the people of Uyo in the National House. The DG who hails from Ibesikpo LGA noted since he left the National Assembly some years ago, he has never seen a case of effective representation. He extolled the leadership qualities of Hon. Effanga and asked for their support for his journey to the federal constituency.

Also speaking, the immediate past member representing Nsit Atai in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Asuqup Darby Udo described Hon. Effanga as the man having the right qualities and requirements of a good representator and called on the people to support him in his bid. 

Responding on behalf of the party, the PDP Chapter Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan, Hon. Emmanuel Ukim assured the team of the party’s support and fairness towards all the aspirants. He charged Effanga to put more efforts in order to ensure success in his ambition.

In Samuel Effanga’s consultation crew to Uruan and Ibesikpo were: Hon. Sympathy Effiong, Elder Inayng Godwin, Hon. Joseph, Prince Patrick Okon, Princess Uwana Pius, Prince John Ekpenyong, Hon. Kingsley Orok, Apostle Edem Eka and Hon. Idongesit Henry. Other were: Hon. Ita Williams, Hon. Peter Columba and Hon. Effiong Mufat.

Meanwhile, checks by The INK reveals that Hon. Samuel Effanga is the leading aspirant among others vying for the seat of Uyo House of Representatives. His background and experiences have prepared him for the task of offering quality representation to the people of Uyo Federal Constituency in such a way that will make his constituency the envy of others.
Political observers from Uyo Federal Constituency have also noted that if Samuel Effanga is given a chance to go to the National Assembly, he will evolve a participatory democracy in Uyo Federal Constituency that will serve as a springboard for the development of the State and the country in general.

However, Samuel Effanga told The INK recently that he will offer a purposeful representation to the people of his constituency. This, he hopes to achieve by participating actively at the National Assembly, championing the course of his constituency and attracting federal government projects.
He further said he is confident that the electorates will prefer him to other contestants because he has always identified with them. It is believed that come 2015, Hon.  Samuel Effanga will emerge the winner of the race.
