Ukanafun 2015: Aniekan Akpan sues for unity
The member representing Ukanafun State constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Elder Aniekan Akpan has called for unity of purpose among the political class as PDP primary election draws closer.

In a telephone conversation with this paper, Elder Akpan said the turnout of political event in the constituency should unite and bring all political blocs and camps into one umbrella for the common good of the people.

In his usual humble way, the lawmaker said his reelection will be victory for the people who are deeply satisfied with his representation in the assembly since 2011 when he went to the assembly maintaining that, he is ever ready to work with all the camps to ensure victory for the party at the end of the day.

Elder Akpan who is the House committee chairman on Public Account is known for his commitment to the welfare of the people and dedication to duties. He has been a strong supporter of Mr Speaker and the state governor and has been tipped as the speaker of the 6th assembly.

Until Monday, 3rd November 2014, the lawmaker had faced serious opposition in his reelection bid with the Afaha political bloc laying claim to the seat in line with their agreed power sharing formular between the Ukanafun and Afaha political blocs.

His aspiration was seen by many as an attempt to disrupt the existing sharing formular which could result in bloodshed in the constituency. The height of discriminatory actions against this refined and hardworking lawmaker was when he was excluded from the list of Ukanafun people to endorse Governor Godswill Akpabio’s senatorial nomination form by the political leaders of Ukanafun. This, he accepted with bias and anger against those who were working against his ambition.

This paper scoped from a very reliable source that though Aniekan Akpan’s name was not in the list he was however recognized by the Governor who subsequently handed him over to the political leaders of Ukanafun as the man to represent the people in the 6th assembly. This many observers say ended the debate of who should represent Unanafun state constituency in the House of Assembly beyond 2015.

So far, his supporters who stood by him are rejoicing and happy that the major hurdle before his reelection has been removed and the beautiful bride, Elder Aniekan Akpan, awaited by the people of Ukanafun State constituency is ready to give his very best in the years ahead.
