PDP has done well for women - Mrs Umanah

A foremost grassroots   women mobilizer in   the State, Mrs. Maureen Aniekan Umanah, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shown sufficient commitment at bridging the gender gap in governance, through inclusion of more women in elective and appointed positions in the State.

Addressing a large crowd of women at the Abak Local Government Council Secretariat; venue for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District’s free medical outreach programme organized by Friends of Martha Udom Emmanuel Organization, Mrs. Umanah called on women of the district to show gratitude for the many good gestures of the PDP led government in the State, by voting the party in the upcoming general elections.

Mrs. Umanah who is also the wife of the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communications, affirmed that no party in history has done more than the PDP in addressing the welfare needs of women in the state. Expressing confidence that women would show gratitude with their votes for the party, in the confidence that the welfare of women would continue to get the priority it deserves.

She thanked the Friends of Martha Udom Emmanuel Organization, for the group’s free medical programme across the state, which according to her, was a proof that matters of women will be given priority, when Udom Emmanuel and other candidates of the PDP are voted in, to sustain the uncommon transformation of Governor Godswill Akpabio.

The Commissioner’s wife reminded the women of the need to avoid indulging in cultural practices that could negatively affect their health, and called on them to report to government medical facilities, whenever there was need, rather than patronize unwholesome health practices that were capable of destroying their lives.
Mrs. Umanah promised to keep up with her commitment in ensuring women were given a pride of place in the polity and scheme of things, even as she commended the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, for bringing hope, succor and pride to womanhood in Akwa Ibom State.
