2015: Udom parleys with Academic community

It was indeed a meeting point of the mind, a confluence of thoughts and a celebration of intellectual flourishes when the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Deacon Udom Gabriel met with the members of the Akwa Ibom Academic community on Sunday, April 5, at the R&R Restaurant, Ibrahim Babangida Way, Uyo.

Billed as an interactive session with the Academia, it sure lived upon to its expectation, as Deacon Udom, speaking extempore and in full command of facts and figures engaged the academic community on what contours and plank his administration will take upon his inauguration on May 29, 2015.
For over one hour, Udom, looking supremely relaxed and in command of his space proved to the community why he is the right deal for the right moment for Akwa Ibom people.

Fielding questions that cut across a wide swath of subjects and issues, Deacon Udom Emmanuel was able to persuade the highly discerning community and got the packed hall giving him standing ovation with the ease and facility with which he talked about his agenda for industrialization, wealth creation, reduction of unemployment,  power generation,  health care and a host of other critical aspects of governance.


When asked why the production of rice which Ini local government area seems to have the comparative advantage has not been explored for commercial purposes, Deacon Udom shocked the  audience when he told the don who had asked the question that he had already reached an agreement with a Japanese firm that will shortly after his inauguration partner with the state top produce rice in Ini for export and local consumption.

He received an uproarious applause for such proactiveness and readiness to hit the ground running from Day1 of his administration.

Moderated by the Commissioner for Information, Hon, Aniekan Umanah, the dons who came from all the faculties across tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom and those form Cross Rivers State of Akwa Ibom extraction were full of praise for Udom Emmanuel for agreeing to share ideas of governance with the community.

“This is the first time a governorship candidate has engaged this community which without a doubt is a critical community. We are very impressed with his forward looking and practical approach to solving problems” Professor Etie Ben Akpan of Department  of geology, University of Calabar had stated.

At the end of the interaction, the packed hall of dons left satisfied that in Udom Emmanuel, the people of Akwa Ibom state are being rewarded with the right governor at the right time.

Speaking at the occasion on behalf of the members of the Academia, Prof Kingsley Akpabio of the Faculty of Science University of Uyo thanked Udom Emmanuel and expressed the belief that he will work with professionals in executing his visions for the State.

The PDP Governorship Candidate was accompanied to the interactive session by the  PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, Commissioner for

Information, Aniekan Umanah, Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Matters, Etido Inyang, BOT, Transformation Initiative for the Empowerment of Ibom People, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang.  Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Power, Dr, Victor  Udo, GMD of Septa Energy and Universal Energy, Engineer Ufot Ebong, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Glory Edet among others.
