How Akpabio’s carry go syndrome destroyed Essien Udim - Umanah

The carry go syndrome introduced  by the PDP regime laid the foundation for the destruction of the peace and political stability that previously existed in Essien Udim LGA, a former Chairman of the area and leading chieftain of the APC in the state, Hon Barr Martins Umanah has declared.

Umanah who stated this while addressing hundreds of APC members last Sunday during a harmonization of Essien Udim APC stakeholders meeting in the area noted with dismay that the monster of impunity witnessed under the PDP almost destroyed the political fabric of the country.

He expressed optimism that the outcome of the 2015 general elections has brought about a new lease of life for the country and called on his kinsmen to join the change movement which the APC represents.
“ The dark days in the history of electoral politics started in 2003 when the carry go syndrome was introduced by the PDP led governments at all levels, attempting to stamp out credible opposition. Then from 2007 till 2015, that monster nearly destroyed the political fabric of the Nigerian nation as opposition was completely annihilated and the rule of impunity prevailed and sustained”.

Continuing, he said, “ By divine grace and providence, the 2015 general elections proved that power belongs to God and His people. For the first time in the history of Nigeria, the great horse died intestate after the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections in which the sitting PDP government at the National level was torpedo by APC”.

The University of Uyo trained lawyer paid tributes to prominent sons of the area who were the leading political lights of Essien Udim such as the late Dr Ibanga Udo Akpabio, Senator Raphael Umoh, Justicmd Akpan Ukutinam Bassey for laying  the foundation for the area to be an epicentre of politics since the first Republic.

The ex council boss explained that he left the PDP and decided to join the APC in order to bring about change in the area and commended the resilience and dexterity of Essien Udim sons and daughters who pioneered the crusade for change in the area, admonishing party members not to be threatened by the current influx of members particularly from the PDP,a party he described as a sinking boat but assured that all interest groups shall be recognised and positively engaged in the amalgamation of various political ideologies.

He called for unity and brotherhood and pledged the resolve of the APC to pull resources together to ensure total victory for Essien Udim APC in future elections in the area.

Other former members of PDP who spoke at the APC harmonization meeting include Rev Ubon Usoro, Hon Emmanuel Isidore, Barr Ifiok Obot, Hon Boniface Akang, Donatus Ebere, Elder Saturday Amos, Barr Imoh Akpan, Otuekong Monday Esuh, Pastor Kingsley Tommy, Anthony Akpan, amongst others. Over 200 members attended the meeting.
