JAMB adjudges AkwaPoly 2nd best sought after Tertiary Institution

The Joint Admission and Matriculation  Board, (JAMB), has adjudged the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, (AkwaPoly), Ikot Osurua, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area as the second most sought after tertiary institution in the country this year.

Professor Dibu Ojerinde made the disclosure during the board’s technical committee meeting which took place at the auditorium of the National Universities Commission, (NUC), Abuja, recently.  This is the committee that among other things sets cut-off points for Nigerian tertiary institutions’ admission. 

Members of the technical committee are vice chancellors and registrars of universities, rectors and registrars of polytechnics, provosts and registrars of colleges of education and other stakeholders in the tertiary education sub-sector.

At the meeting attended by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education,  the rector of the state polytechnic, Dr Israel Affia was called out and asked to be given a standing ovation for maintaining a leading position in the comity of tertiary institutions in the country.

Ojerinde noted that last year, the institution took the first position as the most sought after institution in the country, a feat that many long standing institutions in the country have not met in 20 or more years.

He attributed the AkwaPoly strides to effective and prudent management of both materials and resources by the rector and his team, excellent academic performance and quality output, calling on the leadership of other institutions to borrow a leaf from the Affia led institution and made theirs equally attractive and looked for by students.

The JAMB registrar urged Affia to continue to keep the flag flying by evolving new ideas and strategies that would sustain and even improve upon the admission desires of the students.

The AkwaPoly rector, Affia, thanked the admission body for the recognition and promised to do his best to take the institution to higher height.

And, in an interview with newsmen, Affia said he was surprised that another institution could beat AkwaPoly in admission quest by students, promising to get back to the drawing board for the institution to bounce back next year.
He attributed the successes of the institution to the enabling environment provided by state government, the commitment and sacrifices made by management, hard work and dedication by staff and the  desire by students take the centre stage in the emerging middle-level manpower society.

Affia informed that within the past two and a half years as the rector of the institution, he has registered created a congenial environment for teaching and learning, put paid to examination malpractices and written the name of the institution in gold through excellent academic performance and quality output.
