Oro Nation reaffirms support for Umana Okon Umana

A cross section of  Oro Nation leaders  from Oro Think Tank, Oro Union and Council of Oro Traditional Rulers made up of academicians, politicians, ambassadors, traditional rulers and youth leaders, paid a solidarity visit to the APC governorship candidate, Obong Umana Okon Umana, on Monday, August 10, 2015, in his Uyo residence and reaffirmed their total support to him in his struggle to reclaim his stolen governorship mandate. 

Led by Chief Okon Osung, a well-known leader of thought and political leader of Oro extraction, the group assured Umana Okon Umana that “whatever it takes for you to reclaim your stolen mandate, the people of Oro Nation will stand by you.” 

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chief Osung recalled that the decision of Oro Nation and people to support Umana Okon Umana in the April 11, 2015, governorship election was a well thought out decision. “We can tell you that over 95% of Oro people are in full support of you and the APC. The remaining 5% are also with you, even though they may be sighted elsewhere for immediate economic benefits or reasons,” said Chief Osung. Chief Osung recalls the history of Oro’s support for Umana Okon Umana which started long before the election and noted that the APC governorship candidate “has consistently both in his appointment of Oro nation son as the deputy governorship candidate and his pledge to infrastructurally and economically revamp the area” shown that he is indeed a true son-in - law of Oro”. 

He added: “We have noted the progress of your case in the governorship election petition tribunal going on in Abuja and we are very sure that the tribunal will order for another election. We will, therefore, support you to reclaim your mandate.” Chief Okon Osung also commended the APC for appointing another Oro son, Chief Ita Awak, as the spokesman of the APC in the state.
