Udom Emmanuel
A front line interest group, relevant stakeholders and Nigerian students, has risen in strong defense and support of the Governor, and has also wholeheartedly accepted, hailed and endorsed the Governor’s appointment of Comrade Otobong Aquila Akpan, State Chairman of NANS Joint Campus Committee as his Special Assistant on Student Matters.  These and other positions were scooped by newsmen from the text of a strong worded Letter of Appreciation adressed to His Excellency ‘On the Appointment of Student Matters Aide’, and assented to by over fifty renowned student leaders and activists representing the individual and collective interests of Nigerian students of AkwaIbom origin at home and in the diaspora through their various unions, groups and Associations.
Acting under the aegis of ‘Leadership of the Organized Students Movement, Akwa Ibom Council’, and convened as a loose network and umbrella body, the Students noted that they shall forever acknowledge and appreciate the Governor for ‘being the first to appoint a serving student leader and active lecture hall student as his aide on matters of student welfare, monitoring and quality of education’.
Declaring that, “we shall   ‘swim and sink’ with His Excellency being a promise keeper and trailblazer, even as we are proud to place our unflinching support, unconditional loyalty and priceless goodwill on record”.
The students further pledged to partner the Governor’s five point agenda which seeks ‘to banish poverty, create wealth and generate employments for our members’. Elsewhere in the Letter, the Organized Students Movement, formally congratulated and unanimously lauded Comrade Otobong Aquila Akpan on her well deserved and meritorious appointment as Governor’ Aide on Student Matters.
While describing her as the first female State Chairman of NANS in Nigeria, the students submitted thus, “we do very sincerely accept and wholeheartedly endorse this appointment in view of her pragmatism, doggedness, mobilization and defence of student rights and interests”, adding that, “We salute His Excellency for finding her fit for this assignment, and religiously trust that she shall not disappoint the huge confidence of Government, and the legitimate expectations of the students movement, perhaps judging from her pedigree of courage, excellence, capacity and leadership”.
Meantime, students leaders in the State have hailed Governor Udom Emmanuel to the highest esteem following from his appointment of the State Chairman of NANS, Comrade Otobong Akpan as his Special Assistant on Student Matters. Speaking separately with our correspondent during a telephone conversation, Comrade Joseph Jonathan, President of University of Uyo Students Union observed that,
“Governor Udom Emmanuel is a promise keeper who fit square pegs  in square holes”, adding that, “the joy of students know no bounds as this is on appointment too many”.
On his part, Comrade Enyekan Clifford, immediate past NANS State Director of Action/ Mobilization strongly acknowledged in certain and categorical terms that ‘the students movement around the world have sent a strong message of gratitude to Governor Udom Emmanuel for being the first leader in the entire Black world to consider the age long  clamour of authentic students, especially in Nigeria, that one of them should usually occupy the Governor’s Assistance Desk on matters of students welfare and their quality of education’, maintaining that, ‘Governor Udom Emmanuel is a pace setter and trailblazer’.
