Udoma Udo Udoma: Buhari’s anniversary gift to Nigerians by Thompson Ekpo

Udoma
There is a maxim which maintains that a king is known by the minister he appoints. A King who is unserious with the ideological contents of his cabinet will correspondingly appoint unserious people in the business of governance into his office. In the other hand, a serious king with the business of governance will be diligent in forming his cabinet without undue interference. It is the above maxim that really informed president Buhari’s diligence in constituting his cabinet and not necessarily slowness insinuated in some quarters. Perhaps, negative political behaviors of some past political office holders might also account for his carefulness.
With the level of information technology in advanced countries, it is rather easy to carry out research into the antecedents of potential political appointees. This is so because the record is always readily available. This apart, people in developed democracies have the courage to willingly give out information for or against political gladiators no matter the immediate gain or loss.

This is quite in contrast with our information mechanism and political culture. Thus the president has to be diligent because in the end, the blame or praise will go to him. Gone, therefore, are the days that ministerial list was rushed to the National Assembly without much checks and balances, leaving the appointees to indulge in lobbying. This apart, since the presidential system permits the president to form his cabinet not from the party that wins election, the onus lies with a serious president to be diligent in searching for visible person that will actually meet the requirement of the type of cabinet the president has in mind.
In a multi-ethnic society like ours, the task is enormous. Thus, private individuals and organizations who share in the vision and mission of the president have ethical responsibilities to assist finding and recommending people of impeccable characters to the president for consideration.
As part of efforts to search for a credible personage for the presidential cabinet, we in this newspaper with pride and confidence recommended senator Udoma Udo Udoma as a person with strong character traits with can work with the president to effect necessary changes for good dividends of democracy.
Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, to be precise, hails from Ibekwe village in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. He has a humble background. He was a two-term senator of the federal Republic of Nigeria. During his tenure, he upheld the ethics and values of national interest to the admiration of his colleagues and pride of the people of his senatorial district. He was not desperate in the senate. He once honestly headed a federal government parastatal   as Chairman without any adverse media reports. He is a man to be trusted any time any where he is asked to render public service.
Within the state, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma has never been involved in the politics of mud-slinging and character assassinations. He has rather been quietly contributing ideas towards nation building as an economist and legal practitioner.
This newspaper, therefore, can thump its chest in recommending him to the president for ministerial appointment.
President Buhari’ will therefore, be walking the talk in consideration this man of unimpeachable character in his cabinet.
May God grant the president long life and a successful tenure of office.
