Ekid People’s Union worry over non completion of East West road

The Ekid People’s Union, an apex social-political body of Ekid nation has expressed displeasure over the non completion of the Eket axis of the East-West road by Gitto Construction Company.

The National President of the Union, Prof. Asindi Asindi made the remark on Monday during her national congress at Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

Asindi said that only Eket segment of the east west road project that has been altered from double into a single lane.
He noted that several protest letters had been written to the authorities concerned but were assured that contract has been signed to alter the road into a By-Pass.

“We have continued to wait patiently for the By-Pass programme to come fruition but to no avail,’’ Asindi said.

The National President lamented that the company sluggishly work on resurfacing process of Ikot Usokong-Ikot Ebiok axis of the road, causing great pain and inconvenience on the citizency.

Asindi commended Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom for embarking on the renovation and beautification and beautification of Eket roads under the urban renewal project.

According to him, it has always been the desire and demand that Ekid be given an aesthetic facelift.

He urged on the youths of Eket and indeed Akwa Ibom to support the administration of Emmanuel in his desire to industrialise the state.
He charged the governor repair the dilapidated state of the Eket Stadium and markets in the area.

Asindi called on state government and legislators representing the area in the state and National assembly to take up the issue of the by-pass of the road and ensure that the project is completed on time.

In a key note speech by Chief Assam Assam, SAN on the topic, “Ekid Nation in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria, The Quest for a great society’’, condemned self imposed political leadership of Ekid nation.

He said the imposition of political leader has turned the people into political beggars as well as the root problem facing the people.
“This is an occasion for us to tell ourselves the truth, about who we believe we are, how we are and the implications, nay consequences of our decisions today.

“It is the total effect of the cumulative decisions we make from day to day that manifest over a period of time as our destiny as a people.
“It is important therefore that on an occasion like this we tell ourselves not just the truth, but the whole truth,’’ he said.

Asindi urged the people to set a development agenda that is based on self assessment of potentials anchored on needs and aspirations.
