Gov. Emmanuel to implement one teacher one subject in Akwa Ibom
Gov. Udom  Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has averred that the state will soon implement one teacher one subject in public primary schools in Akwa Ibom.
Emmanuel stated this in Eket during the Commissioning of a renovated five classrooms block at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Ikot Ibiok, Eket in Akwa Ibom on Saturday.

Our Correspondent reports that Mr Andrew Okon renovated and donated the five classroom blocks with dual desks to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Eket.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mr Aniekan Akpan said that the innovation was to create quality education into system.

“Government is coming up with a policy of ensuring that we utilise effectively our own teachers who have specialise in different areas starting from next year. 
“We want to gradually move from the old Teachers Training College arrangement from next section. We will have teachers of mathematics teaching mathematics in all the classes,’’ Akpan said.

According to him, a teachers that teaches different subjects, is not making use of his knowledge well or helping the system for the benefit of the pupils.
“Rather than keeping one teacher to be a master of all or to be teaching all subjects we better create professionalism and division of labour in teaching.
“From studies we have discovered that is not really helping and preparing the children for further education.

“But they can still go round other classes to teach, we want to fully utilised the capacity of the teachers that we have in the primary school, for now they are not fully utilized,’’ he said.

He said the state government had commenced distribution of computers to public primary and secondary schools in the state, adding that computers would be sent to St Paul’s Lutheran School next week.
He said that the government was passionate about education and promise to supports schools across the state.

The Governor appealed to the people to assist school management to protect infrastructures provided to the school by the state government.

He decried the situation where some people use school property like chair to make fire wood in the state.

In his remarks, Transitional Chairman of Eket, Mr Frank Archibong, commended the Philanthropic for his patriotism towards the uplift of education in the state. 

He described the development as “educational transformation”, saying that other well to do Stakeholders, Spirited individuals, corporate organisations should emulate the donor.

He said the development would help the state government to actualise its free and compulsory educational policy in the state.

Also speaking, Mrs Grace Etok, the Head Teacher of the school, expressed appreciation to God and thanked the donor for renovating a block containing five classrooms with an office.

Other things donated by the Philanthropic included provision of 60 dual desks as well as five tables and five chairs to the school.
She promised to make good use of the facilities to uplift qualitative education in the state.

Etok called on the State Government to build perimeter fence to eradicate trespassing stealing and influx of people trooping into the school compound at will. 

Other challenges faced by the school include, well equipped library to facilitate teaching, renovation of other class room blocks in the school, provision of materials such as computers, Science and Home Economics equipments.

Our Correspondent recalled that the pupils of the school had over the past years been sitting on bare floor to read and write.
