Fashion onc womenfolk

BY EMEDIONG ANDREW

In all facets of life, people’s appearance can add credence or can   ridicule or tarnish an organization, individual or a group of people

“The way you dress is the way you will be addressed, is a popular adage”. Looking at this adage, it is more of an advice because anybody who chooses to dress well will do that to make himself and if he chooses to dress indecently will mar himself. But it is so unfortunate that whenever we are talking about fashion, what comes into our mind is the negative aspect of it, rather fashion has both positive and negative influences.
Fashion on a positive side has influence on people because people who go into research about recent dressing will be up-to-dated with the latest style that fit any occasion.

Just like when they say that beauty lies in the eye of a beholder, fashion has played a vital role by portraying the real beauty of a woman.

Recently, research has it that so many fashion designers are becoming richer every day because they have been able to introduce to people what they feel it will be good on them. Some designers even go as far as employing good computer operators who can browse well to get them the latest style and it is unarguably believed that fashion designing is not only for those who don’t have passion for education because if you may agree with me, nothing in this world can be achieved without a fair knowledge of education.

In addition, fashion promotes people’s culture because a particular tribe has its own style of fashion and it fits into their occasion. For instance, the Ibibio tribe where women tie: two wrappers, wear blouses, tie head-tie and goes with a pair of shoes and a handbag. This dressing style is known to have dominated culture of the people and now any Ibibio woman that is getting married must appear in this attire. Besides, what makes it unique is not the fact that women must appear that way but it depends on how one can combine colours to get the true beauty of that attire. This is why colour is seen as one important feature when we are talking about fashion. Yes! For one to achieve this aesthetic in fashion, the person should have a fair knowledge on colour combination because ignorance of this might end up spoiling the clothing one spent more money on. For instance, I attended a traditional marriage where a bride combined two colours and if you ask me I will say it was not just beautiful but attractive too.

Well! The lady had red colour wrappers with a gold blouse and red accessories, i.e. handbag, beads, headtie, shoes etc and she was actually fair in complexion, tell what do you think of this woman now, one may say she is the most beautiful woman on earth whereas she might not even be beautiful facially but what she puts on then contributes to her beauty. This is why I say that fashion is of both positive and negative influence.

Having seen the positive aspect of fashion, I think it will be wise to also look at the negative aspect of it.
I know the first thing and the paramount that comes into the minds when we talk about the negative influence of fashion is indecent dressing. Yes! It is true that indecent dressing is the negative aspect of fashion because you will see a beautiful woman whose dressing can cause people to condemn her beauty. Imagine a woman who appears half-naked on occasion that has so many personalities, it will simply mean that she is doing that to seduce men and she might not even be respected as she may be seen as a loose type, a person who doesn’t have self control and who can easily cave in for men.

Indecency is one thing women should do away with because no people who know or who is self disciplined will even want to go close to such a woman. The rate of indecent dressing is high; recently, women came up with wearing clothes that expose their bodies all in the name of rag jean and short tops that expose their sensitive parts of the body.

Subsequently, we should not practice everything that we see other people do because is you may agree with me that most indecent dressings that is being posed today is being copied from our celebrities, well I know that they are seen as role models but it is not enough to copy negative things we watch from them because most of these things are just film tricks, considering what actors and actresses wear in movie you can hardly see them wear it outside.

However, when we are talking about fashion, we are not only referring to clothing alone, it goes beyond that, because the way we wear our make-up and how we keep our hair also is part of it. Some people wear make-up instead of attracting attention scare people away. Too much make-up can make a beautiful lady looks ugly, this is so because somebody who do not know more on how to apply powder might end up putting more, same goes to eye-pencil, eye-shadow and lipstick and some long eye-lashes might make a woman look scary.

The type of hair we choose can make or mar us, we can easily be addressed falsely because of the style of hair we choose to do. For instance, putting shout colours of weavons or attachments to our hairs. I once saw a woman who braided seven different colours of attachments, these colours include; red, white, black, blue, purple, green and gold colours and imagine what came into my mind when I saw this lady, I easily saw her as a devil incarnate and from my investigations, I found out that she has been doing similar hairstyle to the one I saw. Apart from my own view, I believe others who will see this lady will also describe her by her appearance and this description maybe positive or negative depending on people’s perception.

However, since the world is changing and new things have been coming up daily, we should not just dress to please other people, we should learn how to put on something that are comfortable with, just as it is said that posture is the way you hold yourself, I believe someone should hold his/herself in such a way that you are very comfortable and not to please somebody and die of pains or humiliation. Hence, fashion should be appreciated and not depreciated.
