Obong Attah deserves a pride of place in Akwa Ibom -Ekong Sampson

The recently sworn-in Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Political and Legislative Affairs, Rt. Hon (Barr) Ekong Sampson has advocated that former governor Victor Attah who served between 1999 to 2007 be given a distinct pride of place in the state.
Barr Sampson made the advocacy last Thursday while being hosted to an interview session on Planet Radio  (101.1FM).

Responding to a question which sought his view on the recent move by his boss, Governor Udom Emmanuel to reconcile stakeholders back to the state for progress purposes, Barr Ekong said the move was highly commendable as it is timely, “especially at times like this when the wealth of knowledge and experience of people like Obong Attah is needed to help drive the state to greatness”.

Barr Sampson said that there is no way the history of Akwa Ibom State will be completely written without a well carved out pride of place for Obong Attah, as according to him, it is a deserved honour on the former state helmsman.

He also stressed that the former Gov Attah had worked so hard in the era of resource control, and had also won the state a pride of place in the national scene through his dogged efforts to secure the financial and other rights of the state, adding that despite having given up power years back, such efforts cannot be left unrecognised.

The former lawmaker also said that in terms of intellectual advantage, Obong Attah remains a great scholar that has the depth of his convictions. Therefore, according to him, it is only fitting that such an important personality who has done so much for the state be recognized, and his senses, consulted and made use of intermittently.

His words: “I keep saying this and with all sense of responsibility that Obong Attah is a great leader who has worked selflessly for the progress of the state. And as you can see, the incumbent governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel holds him in high esteem. If you recall his last birthday and you were privileged to read the hearty message he received from the governor, you will agree with me that things are changing in the state for the better. And here is an evidence that we’re working as a team to take the state to the next level”.

He further stressed that the state has metamorphosed into an era when policy must be used in driving policy, while urging citizens to rise above self destruct and hatred, and work towards the progress of the state and the collective interest of the citizenry.
