Sure foundation matriculates over 200 students

It was a glaring example of giving back to the society when people from all walks of life converged on Ikot Akai in Ukanafun Local Government Area, for the official opening and maiden matriculation of the Sure Foundation Polytechnic; a privately owned institution, and first to commence with full accreditation from the National Board for Business and Technical Education, NBTE.

Performing the official unveiling, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, lauded the ingenious commitment of the founder, Dr. Idongesit Udom, to qualitative education, noting the institution holds a promising advantage in character formation.

Mr. Ekpo lauded the level of infrastructure put in place to make learning worthwhile, and listed high caliber facilities, manpower and zeal of the management board to surpass the status quo in technical education and set a paradigm in excellence, was all the school needed to boost the educational fortune of the nation.

He expressed the belief that graduates of the institution will add value to the nation’s crave for industrialization, pointing that a nation that seeks better welfare must first get her education right, and announced the resolve of the state government to partner Sure Foundation Polytechnic to maximize such huge investment.

Presenting the license from the NBTE, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the polytechnic, Dr. Idongesit Udom explained the driving force behind the success of the Sure Foundation dream was his burning concern to give back to the society, having enjoyed the magnanimity of being educated through various scholarship programmes of government.

Commending his family, friends and others who encouraged him, Dr. Udom narrated the sacrifices he made to see to the provision of what was required to make the school start strong, and assured that the institution would maintain high scholarly standards to provide content to the Nigerian industrialization crave.

In a matriculation lecture on the topic “the role of polytechnic education in Nigeria’s quest for economic diversification” the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Natioanal Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, identified the need to bridge the dichotomy between graduates of university and polytechnics as the only way to promote technical education.

Enang decried the dearth of creativity in the Nigerian academic space, noting that lack of job opportunities was also responsible for the increased rate of sophisticated crimes, citing operations of illegal refineries in the creeks as what would not have been, if the government were committed to building modular refineries where those involved in illegal oil operations can be engaged.

Matriculating about two hundred pioneer students into the departments of electrical/electronics engineering, computer engineering, computer science, public administration, accounting and math/statistics, the Rector of the institution, Elder Banjamin Ezeali, admonished them to be worthy ambassadors of the school, promising the cooperation of management and staff to ensure the institution sustains an enviable standard.
Congratulating the board and management of the institution for the historic takeoff, the Chairman on the occasion, Mr. Udom Inoyo charged them to do more and stay on top of their game as a leading institution of technical training in the country.
Members of the governing council and board of trustees were presented at the event, while the Speaker of the State Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke, Rector Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko, Prof. Godwin Abari and the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Mr. Chrysanctus Asuka presented goodwill messages.
