AKSG hails frontier oil

The Akwa Ibom Government has lauded Frontier Oil Limited and Seven Uquo Gas Limited for doling out the sum of N100 million to students of tertiary institutions in the state.

Mr Paul Udofia, the Commissioner for Education, made the commendation at the events of presentation of 2016 FOL-SUGL educational grant in Eket Local Government Area of the state. He noted that the grant would help to sustain the free and compulsory education project of the state government. 

He expressed appreciation to the company for partnering the state government to educate the people of Akwa Ibom, saying that government alone can’t provide the need of all the education in the state.

Udofia, represented by Mrs Helen Amte, Executive Secretary of Akwa Ibom Scholarship Board, commended the company for fulfilling some aspects of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the authorities.


“What is being done today is the fulfillment of the aspect of MoU signed between the state government, the company and the host communities,’’ he said. 

He described the educational grant as laudable programme, saying that the money would help to solve educational problems of the students. 

 He advised the beneficiaries to use the grants judiciously and for the purpose the money was meant for. 

Also speaking, Mr Wale Adefila, the Operation Director of FOL, said that FOL-SUGL has set aside 20 per cent of N50, 000, 000 million of the total Community Development funds in 2016 for educational development. 

He promised that the company would commence scholarship scheme that would cater for students from their year one to final year in 2018. 

“What you have now is educational grant, you need to work hard so that you will be among the beneficiaries of our scholarship scheme next year,’’ Adefila said.

He said that 50 students were selected from Esit Eket, 40 students from Eket and 10 from the state for the grants. Adefila said that the money was a token to assist the students in their educational career.

He promised that the company would provide Skill Acquisition, Micro Credit Scheme and Infrastructural Development for the less privilege women and youths in the area. He enjoined the students to work hard in order to benefit from the company’s scholarship scheme next year. 

In his remarks, Imoh Udobia, the Chairman of the Uquo Field Committee commended the sponsored of the programme, saying that the MoU have come to stay. 

Udobia said that the committee would speedily implement the 2016 programme of the MoU before the first quarter of 2017.

Speaking on behave of the beneficiaries, Charles Ekwere, a Civil Engineering in the Akwa Ibom State University thanked the company for the opportunity giving to them. 

He promised that he would part of the money to buy his text books, saying that the remaining would be use to solve his educational problems.

Our Correspondent reports that FOL is an indigenous company which engage in exploration and production of petroleum and is the operation of Uquo Marginal field in OML-13 located in Eket and Esit Eket.
