Former elected chairmen on the platform of PDP have passed vote of confidence on Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, saying that his performance deserves a second term in 2019. The former Council helmsmen made their position known during a courtesy visit on the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Udo Ekpenyong.
In a motion moved by a former chairman of Onna LGA, Mr Patrick Ifon and seconded by a former chairman of Uruan LGA, Dr. Eventus Edem, the Forum resolved that in view ofunassailable performance of the governor that it has no option than to support him to continue in his performance profile.
The forum which unanimously passed vote of confidence in support of Governor Emmanuel pledged to identify with good governance and expert management of the dwindling resources of the state.
The commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Udo Ekpenyong who expressed pleasure at the visit of the forum thanked members for their unflinching support to the party and Governor Emmanuel administration. He expressed government’s determination to maintain cordial relationship with credible groups like the Forum and assured them of dividends of democracy.
Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the Forum, Mr. Godwin Ekpo congratulated the commissioner on his recent appointment.
The former Ibiono Ibom Council boss described the commissioner as a tested and trusted politician who is known for total commitment, persistence, hardwork and integrity, adding that such sterling attributes and pedigree have convinced Governor Emmanuel to build absolute confidence in him.
The former chairman stated that Governor Emmanuel is the best for the state, especially now that recession is biting the citizens and thanked the state chief executive for the capacity he has in managing the lean resources of the state.
The Forum Chairman gave an assurance that they would ensure the victory of the governor in 2019 and thanked the governor for carrying them along, emphasized that none of the members is planning to defect to another party as they have been members of the party since 1999. He urged the government to invest in them for bountiful reward and appealed to the government to expedite the payment of “Severance gratuity” to them.
Also speaking, a member of the Forum, Mr. Imo Udobia described the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as a engine room that would make things happen in 2019, and assured the commissioner that they had done it before and would do it again.
