LG polls: Ward send S.O.S to Gov. Udom, Ekpo, others

LG polls: Ward send S.O.S to Gov. Udom, Ekpo, others

A group of patriotic persons in ward 1, Esit L.G.A have send a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to Gov. Udom Emmanuel as the leader of the party, the State Chairman, Mr. Paul Ekpo and members of the Esit Eket Local Government Executive Committee of the Party on the perceive plan to short change and deny them opportunity to produce council chairman in the coming Local Government Polls in favour of ward 2.

Transparency, Integrity and Equity Watch, through her spokes person Mr. David Etukudo alleged the purported zoning of the chairmanship position to zone A does not reflect the sincerity of the local executive committee of the party.

He accused them of unguarded utterances, behavior and activities skewed to short change them from the chairmanship race which should be exclusive for ward 1 only, if they were sincere, equitable and just to all component units of the zone and council.

The group maintained, “Though the constitution of the party vest the sole responsibility to zone political positions on the local government executive committee of the party, noted, it’s absurd that the same committee has already signed an understanding to promote the candidature of a particular individual at the detriment of others”.

This is a clear indication that the party might have given its ticket to the said favoured individual and thereby forecloses others from the contest.

A detailed look at the chairmanship chart in zone A since the advent of democratic governance in 1999 indicate ward 2 had benefitted from the zoning arrangement with Hon. Imo Udobia serving as Transition Chairman for one year and later elected Chairman/Head of Council for three years.

Ward 2 had its turn through Hon. Okon Edoho Udoh as Transition Chairman for a year and later Council Secretary for three years, while the incumbent Hon. Iniobong Nnamso shall have served for almost three years as Transition Chairman also on the slot of ward 3.

Sir, it will be equitable and just to balance the rotation formular in the zone to allow ward 1 with its enormous voting strength to produce the standard bearer or candidate of the party (PDP) in the coming council polls for the sake of peace.

“Our support to the party since 1999 is unprecedented” they averred.
Please let Gov. Udom Emmanuel as an Apostle of equity and justice, the State Chairman Mr. Paul Ekpo, the hierarchy of the party intervene and rescue us from injustice of the local government committee of the party and its leadership.

“The State Leadership of the party should prevail on them to zone the said chairmanship position to us in ward 1 in clear and unambiguous terms and thereby put an end to the injustice, cheat, denial meted on us for decades”. The group prayed.

Records at our disposal indicate Esit Eket Local Government Council with ten wards is divided into 3 geo-political zones of A, B and C with wards 1, 2 and 3 constituting zone A, while zone B parades wards 4, 5, 6 and 9 and zone C comprises of wards 7, 8 and 10.

Equally zoning principle had since been adopted by the said Executive Committee of the party, Elders and Stakeholders of the council in the appropriation of political offices since the advent of democratic governance in 1999.
