Political stability: Eket Leaders celebrate Onofiok Luke

Elders and stakeholders of Eket Senatorial Districts in Akwa Ibom state have thanked the leaders of Uyo Senatorial District for their unalloyed support to Governor Udom Emmanuel.

They particularly extolled Speaker Onofiok Luke of Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, saying his focused leadership at the state legislature has stabilised the system for the governor.

According to them, Speaker Luke was the right Speaker Akwa Ibom and her people needed from the begining of the current political dispensation.

The remarks were made during a thank-you visit to the leaders and stakeholders from Uyo Senatorial District on Sunday.

The meeting held at the countryhome of former military governor, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga in Ikot Nya, Nsit Ibom local government area. The elders from both Uyo and Eket took time to thank the Speaker for proving himself as a chief supporter of the administration.

Speaking on behalf of the Eket elders delegation, Chief Nduese Essien, who is chairman of the Eket Elders Forum, eulogised Barr Onofiok Luke for his plausible performance since assumption of office in December 2015 as Speaker.

“Infact he was the one we supported from the beginning as the right choice for the position, and despite being denied at first, he later emerged at the time he did, and we can all see that he is performing creditably well.”

Chief Nduese Essien, a former two-term federal lawmaker said that the success enjoyed by Governor Emmanuel has been made possible by the smooth relationship between the state House of Assembly and the executive arm of government.

He said no matter the good intentions of the governor, if he fails to get the backing of the legislature, his vision would not be realised, and commended Speaker Luke’s leadership prowess in the state legislature.

“We must commend Uyo for producing such a dynamic son as speaker, he has been able to effectively galvanize the support his colleagues in the House of Assembly and we are seeing the result”.

Speaking in the same vein, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, the Chairman of Board of Trustees of Uyo Senatorial District Elders commended Onofiok Luke for his ability to liaise with Governor Emmanuel for the development of the state.

“They called you an iron seal, no longer rubber stamp. Don’t be deterred but continue to partner with the governor in the overall interest of our people,” said Nkanga.

This view was corroborated by the deputy leader of Uyo Senatorial District Elder’s Forum, Dr. Val Attah who described Barr Luke as a man as the anchor point for the future of the state.

He said as Uyo elders they were satisfied that Barr Luke has justified his current position. “Speaker, we are grooming you up for a greater tomorrow. We see you taking over from us.

There is a generational change and you have not failed us,” Dr Attah said.
